Our wellness is a whole mountain

There and Weggis - the Weggis slogan says it all. Situated on the old Gotthard route, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once passed through here, and in 1897 Mark Twain described Weggis as the «loveliest and cosiest place in the world». Weggis, a village with only around 4,500 inhabitants, offers relaxation for the senses, deceleration and enjoyment. Falling in love is guaranteed.

The Rigi has earned its name «Queen of the Mountains». And you are staying at the Seehof Hotel Du Lac at the foot of this queen. From here, you can hike up the majestic mountain, explore it by mountain bike – or, if you prefer a more leisurely ride, take the cable car up. Awaiting you at the top: a marvellous view of the Alpine panorama, culinary delights in the mountain restaurant, wellness in the mineral baths (see below).

You can reach the Weggis boat station on foot in 3 minutes. The boat – often a classic paddle steamer – takes you across the magnificent Lake Lucerne, for example to Brunnen or to the birthplace of Switzerland, the Rütli – and in the other direction to the centre of Lucerne. And if you don't want to explore the water by boat? Go to the Lido lido, hire a sailing boat, stand-up paddleboard or wakeboard – or dive into the lake right in front of the Seehof Hotel Du Lac.

No, the Seehof Hotel Du Lac does not have a wellness area. Pardon: we have a monumental one – a whole mountain. The water source with healing powers on Mount Rigi was first mentioned back in 1540. Today, the Mineralbad & Spa Rigi Kaltbad, built by star architect Mario Botta, entices visitors to enjoy wellness bliss. The valley station of the Weggis aerial cableway is just 600 metres away – from there you can reach the Mineralbad & Spa in 10 minutes. Of course, you can also earn your time out at the spa and hike up the mountain in around 3 hours.

Sunday Yoga, horse-drawn carriage rides, flea market, Summer Sounds Lakeside in the pavilion on the lake – nota bene less than 3 minutes' walk from the Seehof Hotel Du Lac –, fishing festival, folklore performances or Riviera Latina Festival, rock concerts, organ matinee or jazz: there is always something going on in Weggis. Perhaps a little more in summer than in winter. But don't be fooled: Winter enchants with its own, more leisurely magic with winter hikes around the snow-crowned Rigi, sleigh rides, Candlenight night bathing, Chlaus hunting or Advent concerts.
